Out of Milliways: a set visit

Santa Fe's quite warm this time of year, but it's a drier heat than what Angel remembers from New York. In any case, it certainly looks the part for Holy Wood.
"Okay, a movie set really shouldn't be that hard to find, especially out here. And once we get there, I doubt we'll have any problems."

"Iced tea for me as well." Mark smiles at the girl, a bit conspiriatorially. "And relax. Seriously. No one at this table's going to bite. Or fire you if that's what you're worried about."

The waitress actually laughs, then walks off, returning a moment later with the drinks and a smile, and the disappears to another table.

"How is filming coming along?"

"Oh, it goes. I swear the dog we have for Gaspode has a mind of his own, but then agian, it fits his character, so we deal. Other than that, it's been going fairly well, I think. There's only a few of us who have been on a real set before, myself definitely -not- included. Then again, we never do anything the normal Holy Wood way anyway."

"I think avoiding the normal way's part of what got you the rights anyway."

"It probably is. Besides, I'm sure that's making it more enjoyable for most of the people involved."

The waitress returns, taking their food orders.

"Well, yeah. That's why most of the people came to work on this specific film. I've never exactly done things in the way most people think is normal." He shrugs. "I like it that way. And, for what it's worth, I think it'll make a better film."

Angel shrugs. "In any case, your fan base will be thrilled to hear you've got something else in the works."

"Shame it's not the sequel that they've been waiting for."

Mark facepalms at Sara. "I still don't exactly know how they expect me to write a sequel of my life. There's no way it could be anything but a stand-alone film."

"And really, he wouldn't even be able to get the best character back for it."

"Not that that seems to have stopped you," a teenage girl's voice shoots back, as its owner approaches the table. "Seriously. What happened to one time only?"

Angel shrugs. "Can I help it if people keep making wishes on my behalf?"

"Blame me if you have to," Sara says dryly. "But I don't think his friends are going to object too much."

"I had nothing to do with this one, Meredith, I swear." Mark facepalms. "Pull up a chair. Sara, this is Meredith, one of the regulars around here, and rather a little fan. She, well, she knows quite a lot about things. Meredith, this is my girlfriend Sara."

Angel grins. "He didn't have anything to do with the Osrics, either. I seriously didn't think I'd be able to make it until the night before."

"Yeah, that's what they all say." Meredith pulls up a chair, and then raises an eyebrow. "Girlfriend, huh? Good to meet you."

"Guilty as charged," she says, still a bit dry. "You, too. And this can be blamed on me via similar method that got Angel to the Oscars."

Well, that's as clear as mud, isn't it?

"...Oh, so you're from the bar. That explains a bit." Meredith knows to keep her voice down when the place comes up in conversation, especially when the restaurant's this crowded.

"That she is." Angel shrugs. "Family's a funny thing like that."

"Yup." Mark grins. "Angel'd already adopted her before she and I really started talking." He smiles at Sara, a rather beaming expression.

"When in doubt, blame Milliways. The six-degrees of separation game gets really interesting there." She grins at Mark.

"I bet it does. Let me guess, there's a... Ghostbuster in there or something."

"More than one, I think. And really, that's a mundane option."

"...I'd accuse you of kidding, but you're probably not."

"Oh, yeah. Ray and I have talked quite a lot, actually." Mark smiles, innocently serious, taking Sara's hand under the table.

"One of my good friends is a sentient rock," Sara says idly, squeezing Mark's fingers. "Another married a childhood hero of mine."

"...That's just weird."

"Very weird," Angel agrees. "Wouldn't have it any other way, though. And hey, I can say I've been to a royal wedding now."

"I filmed that royal wedding." Mark grins. "It's all really really strange, but hey. It's really worth it in the long run."

"Ah yes. We're all good friends of the Queen in question, but we've also been reliably informed that we will suffer painful consequences if we ever bow to her," she says cheerfully, picking up her glass of tea.

Angel shrugs. "Why stand on ceremony when she could kick its ass into next month?"

"...I'm just not gonna ask," Meredith manages, after a few moments.

"Probably for the best."

"It's generally the wisest policy as far as that is concerned."
